People with poor literacy, numeracy, language and ICT skills tend to be on lower incomes or unemployed, and they are more prone to ill health and social exclusion.  LEAP provides services, alone or with partners, to help people develop the basic skills that are essential to them accessing the full range of opportunities in the 21st Century global economy.

LEAP has developed two easy-to-understand courses that opens up the world of computing to people who thought that it may have passed them by.  We run a beginners’ IT class in the evening, in our modern and comfortable IT suite, which is a very useful introduction to using computer technology for people who have never used a PC before. On this course we teach them the difference between hardware and software, what an operating system is; and how to use the Internet, email and word processing software. The success of these classes saw us launch intermediate sessions, where people can develop their skills to a higher level and learn how to work with spreadsheet software. The Introductory Course is accredited to an OCN (Open College Network) Level 1 qualification and the Intermediate course to an OCN Level 2. Both of these courses are free of charge for retired people and greatly substidised for those who are unemployed.
