On 4th November 2009, LEAP held our very first charitable fundraiser, at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel. BIG PUSH was an event that aimed at raising further awareness about the work we do, as well as to generate funds so that we can continue helping those that are disadvantaged, unemployed, who are finding it difficult to obtain and maintain employment.
Thanks to generous support from VT Group plc, our main sponsor, 170 attendees enjoyed a superb evening hosted by the acclaimed playwright and actor, Kwame Kwei-Armah. Amongst the guests, there were tables acquired by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the Metropolitan Police, Race for Opportunity and Serco. We were also very pleased that Douglas Flint CBE (HSBC) and Iqbal Wahhab (founder of Roast and the Cinnamon Club restaurants) were able to join us.
The evening started off with a champagne reception, followed by a delightful three course dinner during which the guests were thoroughly entertained by “Dragon Slayer” Levi Roots and The Three Waiters. The guests were also enthralled by a powerful presentation by our key note speaker, Mike Harris (founder of Egg and One-To-One).
The evening ended with a charity auction, with thirteen auction prizes generously donated, and altogether helped LEAP raise a total of £44,000 that went towards providing services for unemployed people. Big Push was a major success and will be an annual event held to celebrate the work we do here and share an evening with our supporters and friends.
